Auditions for Fall Second Stage Play- Night of the Living Dead

Departments: Acting, APA Student Council, MMET Music, MMET Media, Music, Media and Entertainment Technology, Technical Theatre, Costuming, Dance, Musical Theater, Orchestral Music, Theatre

Auditions will be September 6th and 7th in T-1 Starting at 6:00 pm. You can sign up for a time slot in T-2.

 

Prepare a 1 minute memorized monologue.

Callbacks are September 9th at 3 pm. Those who received a callback will be advised.

This play is open to all APA students. Actors can only be in one of the fall productions- Leading Ladies, Drowsy Chaperone or Night of the Living Dead. You should audition for all three if you are interested. Auditions for Night of the Living Dead and Leading Ladies are held at the same time. Mr. Rotenberry will be casting both shows.

Fall out from a satellite probe shot to Venus returns to Earth carrying a mysterious radiation that transforms the unburied dead into flesh-eating zombies. Seven people trapped in an isolated farmhouse, held hostage by the ravenous ghouls, begin to turn on each other as the dead encroach. A gripping terror-filled monochromatic play that brings all the fright of the cult classic to life. This blend of thrilling horror laced with touches of black humor envelops the audience in the action and unfolds into a shocking theatrical ending. The show is 80 minutes without an intermission.

Main characters

Ben- The hero. Late 20’s. Written as a black man but all roles are open to all ethnicities.

Barbara- Young blonde woman, 20’s. The damsel in distress who is traumatized by Johnny’s murder.

Harry Cooper- Middle aged man, difficult, challenges Ben to be the leader.

Helen Cooper- Middle aged, Harry’s more reasonable but put upon wife.

Karen Cooper-The Cooper’s 11 year old daughter, was bitten by Zombie, dies and comes back as a zombie, kills her parents.

Tom- Muscular, helpful young man. Late teens.

Judy- Pretty girl, Tom’s girlfriend. Late teens.

Supporting Characters

Johnny- Barbara’s brother who is killed saving her from the Zombie. He comes back as a Zombie and kills her.

Zombie #1- Tall, graying hair. Attacks Barbara and kills Johnny.

Corpse on the Stair – Woman. Partially eaten, dead on the stairs.

Radio Announcer – Male or female. Has two huge monologues.

News Anchor - Male or female. Has a huge monologues and two smaller speeches.

Dr. Grimes- Male or female. Has some answers to the zombie attacks.

Bill Bardough- Male or female. Reporter at the farmhouse after the attacks are over, or are they?

Sheriff “Chief” McClellan- leads the zombie fight only to die and become one himself.

Two Deputies- One male, one female. Are killed and become zombies at the end.

Performs Monday and Tuesday, October 24 and 25 in the Black Box Theatre plus Zombie Attack all day on Saturday, October 29 for the fall festival in the TV Studio.
