Technical Theatre

This program's motto "keeping up with technology" and its ongoing quest for state-of-the-art equipment have produced some of the most skilled technical theatre students in the state. True to its mission to provide an educational atmosphere that inspires creativity, and provides the necessary tools to obtain entry-level positions, in Theater Production Industry, all courses focus on hands-on skill training and practical production and costume design. The well-oiled machinery of teamwork, leadership and effective communication is evidenced when the curtain raises on all APA's main-stage productions.


Theatrical Production/Design
Students will study beginning theoretical and practical training in nonperformance areas including lighting and sound design, set construction, stage management and other areas associated with performing arts productions. Behind the scenes participation in performances is required. This class may be repeated for additional credit.
 
Technical Theatre Design & Construction
Students who have already mastered the skills taught in Theatrical Production/Design may move on to this advanced level ROP course. The course is designed to offer professional experience in the field of technical theatre. The emphasis is placed on gaining practical experience in the areas of lighting and sound design, set construction and stage management, as well as keeping up with recent developments in the technology. Students who complete this course will be prepared to successfully enter the field of professional technical theatre upon graduation. This class may be repeated for additional credit.
 
Costume Design & Construction
Students who have already mastered the skills taught in Theatrical Production/Design may move on to this advanced level ROP course. Students will study basic costume design elements while building a comprehensive resource file with information including design terminology, measurement and size cards, color theory, renderings and production presentations. Class will consist of both lectures, to teach the elements of costume design, and lab time, to practice costume construction skills and work on presentations and portfolios. Behind the scenes
