Summer Academy

Step inside the world of professional entertainment!

APA's Summer Academy Intensive is an immersive, two-week program bringing together students passionate about theatre, dance, music, film, fashion, and entertainment production. Unlike traditional summer camps, students won't simply take classes, they'll experience what it takes to bring a professional-style production to life!
Students will select their top two creative fields. Most of their training will concentrate on these chosen areas, but they will also have the chance to try other fields through workshops and group classes. This approach helps students step out of their comfort zones, find new creative passions, and learn how different parts of the entertainment industry connect. Through hands-on instruction, creative exploration, and rehearsals, students will build their individual skills while contributing to one exciting culminating live showcase.

At the APA Summer Academy, we believe some of the best creative discoveries happen when students step outside their comfort zones!
Students will select their top two disciplines from our six creative areas. These selections will serve as their primary areas of focus throughout the intensive, with the majority of their specialized training centered around their chosen interests. Every effort will be made to honor these preferences when creating individual class schedules.
But the experience doesn't stop there!
As part of our multidisciplinary approach, students will also have opportunities to participate in classes and workshops outside their primary disciplines. This allows them to discover new interests, develop additional skills, and gain a better understanding of how different areas of the entertainment industry work together.

For example, a theatre student might explore filmmaking, a dancer might discover costume design, or a musician might learn how lighting and sound help create an unforgettable live performance.
Students may also select an optional third discipline they'd be excited to explore! While their first two choices will remain the priority, this third selection will help our staff thoughtfully plan class schedules and provide additional learning opportunities that align with each student's interests
Ultimately, our goal is to offer students the best of both worlds: focused training in the areas they're most passionate about and the opportunity to discover new talents along the way.
Everything comes together during our daily collaborative production lab, where students apply what they've learned across disciplines to help create one exciting final live showcase!

The first day of APA Summer Academy will kick off with an exciting introduction to the creative process! Students will meet their instructors, connect with other student artists, and participate in auditions or interviews to help determine their roles and responsibilities in the final live showcase.
Performance Disciplines: Students interested in theatre, dance, and music performance will participate in auditions designed to highlight their skills, interests, and individual strengths which will help instructors cast performance roles and determine how students will contribute to the showcase.
Technical & Creative Disciplines: Students interested in film, costume and fashion design, or entertainment production will participate in informal interviews, show off portfolios of previous experience (not required but encouraged) and skills assessments to explore their interests, experience, and creative goals. These conversations will help instructors assign production roles and responsibilities, such as filmmaking, costume design, lighting, sound, or backstage production.
There’s no need to feel intimidated! Auditions and interviews are designed to be welcoming, supportive opportunities for students to share their interests and abilities—not high-pressure evaluations. Prior experience is not required! Every student will have a meaningful role in bringing our final production to life.
The final live showcase is where everything comes together! Performers, musicians, choreographers, filmmakers, designers, and technicians will apply the skills they have developed, collaborating to bring one shared artistic vision to life in the final live showcase.
